Susan was raised on a farm in England and in her early years loved to paint the beauty of the Hampshire countryside. When she moved to Sonoma County in the 1980's, she found the same striking natural beauty. She put aside her scientific career and began to paint professionally, capturing the wonders of her new home in her impressionistic plein air paintings.
The Laguna de Santa Rosa is a favorite subject, with its wild, ever-changing panorama of oak trees, tall grasses and shining waters.
Sonoma County also inspires Susan's still life studies. She finds Heirloom Varieties available at the local farmers' market which provide incomparable models for her detailed paintings.
Susan's art springs from her love of the land. Just as she did as a child, she paints the beauty around her.
